Weekend ridership on the line also rose, with Sunday ridership up from 15,965 in April to 35,994 in June, according to a Metro blog post.

Metro's 6.6-mile extension of the Expo Line opened in May. The route runs from Santa Monica to Culver City, Calif., and includes seven stations.

"As would be expected, the Expo numbers helped boost Metro Rail ridership in June — with the Blue Line, Red/Purple Line and Gold Line also seeing increases," wrote Steve Hymon, editor of Metro's blog.

Average weekday ridership on all of Metro's rail lines weekday increased from 333,745 in April to 362,501 in June. The Blue Line remains the agency's busiest light-rail line, with an average 83,426 weekday riders last month.
