The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will hold four community meetings later this month to review alternatives to extend the Crenshaw/LAX light-rail line, which is under construction and scheduled to open in 2020.

The Crenshaw Northern Extension will extend the line north of Exposition Boulevard and the Expo Line and serve portions of the cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. The first phase of the project will create light-rail service to Los Angeles International Airport, the Crenshaw Corridor and Inglewood communities.

A feasibility study for the project was released last summer and there are five potential alignments under review for the extension, according to Metro’s blog. Metro will be conducting a screening study through fall 2019 that will help determine which alignment options will be studied further in a formal environmental review process anticipated to begin in early 2020.

The extension will be funded by Measure M, a sales tax ballot measure approved by Los Angeles County voters in 2016. Measure M allocated $2.24 billion to the entire project, which is slated for completion in 2047.
