L.A. Metro to host workshops for Crenshaw/LAX light-rail line

Beginning Oct. 28, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) will hold a series of community workshops on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor project.

Agency officials will provide an update on the evaluation of maintenance facility locations and the project in general, discuss input received during past workshops, and provide information on station alternatives, station-area planning, and streetscape and land design concepts.

L.A. Metro currently is evaluating several maintenance facility sites for the line. Later this year, the agency expects to release an Environmental Assessment/Revised Draft Environmental Impact Report that focuses solely on maintenance facility issues. The document is analyzing four sites along the proposed line in the Los Angeles International Airport and South Bay areas.

The 8.5-mile light-rail corridor would run from the Metro Green Line to the Expo Line, which currently is under construction. The project will be funded through Measure R, the half-cent sales tax initiative approved by Los Angeles County voters in November 2008.
