The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) announced plans to replace its GoMetro mobile application with the Transit trip planning app.

The Transit app will provide LA Metro riders with real-time arrival information for trains and buses, navigation, trip planning features, personalized service alerts and offline functionality, LA Metro officials said in a press release.

Riders also can use the app to plan trips that include transfers within the LA Metro system and to other agencies and ride share services.

LA Metro signed a no-cost contract with Transit to integrate the agency’s data into the trip planning app. The partnership is expected to save LA Metro $240,000 per year in app maintenance and development costs, agency officials said.

“This is a win-win for riders, taxpayers and LA Metro as it will allow us to focus on improving our system while allowing our partners at Transit to continue providing an innovative mobility tool that many of our riders are already familiar with,” said LA Metro Chief Executive Officer Phillip Washington.
