L.A.-area officials dedicate Expo Line's Culver City Station

Yesterday, officials from Los Angeles and Culver City, Calif., gathered to dedicate the opening of the Expo Line’s Culver City Station.
Both the Culver City and Farmdale stations officially opened to the public at noon yesterday, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said in a prepared statement.
The stations’ opening marked the completion of the first phase of the light-rail Expo Line. Under construction since 2006, the $932 million line spans 8.6 miles between downtown Los Angeles and Culver City. Under way is the second phase of construction, a $1.5 billion project designed to expand the line another 6.6 miles to reach Santa Monica by 2016.
“With this line, we are giving Angelenos the 21st Century transit options they want and deserve,” said L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
In May, the Expo Line averaged 11,347 riders each weekday, with the line’s ridership totaling 9,000 on Saturdays and 7,000 on Sundays.
