The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) posted a 8.9 percent gain in rail ridership in July, registering increases on all four rail lines, according to a blog posted on the agency’s website. Boardings totaled slightly more than 9 million.
For the first time since it opened in 2003, the Gold Line averaged more than 42,900 weekday riders, double the average weekday ridership in July 2009 before the Eastside Gold Line opened, the blog stated. The Gold Line has been running more frequent and longer trains during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
The Red/Purple subway and Blue Line set monthly records in July, while the Green Line recorded its second-best month, the blog stated.
Total system ridership for the month reached 38 million boardings compared with 37.9 million in July 2010.
