advertisement
Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Nov. 5 awarded Alstom a $6.7 million contract to upgrade the commuter railroad’s Hollis and Queens interlockings with Smartlock™ Vital Processor Interlocking (VPI) systems.
The Smartlock VPI is a modular, microprocessor-based system designed to more easily interface with a customer’s existing or new infrastructures, including field, office and carborne signal and control equipment.
Alstom has installed 900 VPI systems for 50 different customers worldwide.
LIRR also awarded Alstom a contract in August to modernize the Valley Interlocking and West Hempstead extension. Alstom is providing Smartlock VPI and its Personal Traffic Master dispatching system for computerized central traffic control.
