Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) plans Aug. 27 to adjust its timetables, restoring some services that had been affected by a concrete tie program nearing completion, and modifying other schedules to accommodate upcoming or already under way track projects.



Between June 18 and Aug. 26, LIRR installed about 36,000 reinforced concrete ties, 29 miles of continuous welded rail, 25,000 tons of ballast and 77,000 feet of new third rail protection board on all four mainline tracks between Jamaica and Queens Village.



Other work on the system includes: installing an upgraded signal system between Jamaica and Flatbush Avenue through mid-September; removing Track 6 in Flatbush Avenue Terminal through mid-October; replacing 3,000 wood ties, 42,000 feet of continuous welded rail and third rail on Far Rockaway Branch between Aug. 27 and mid-December; and replacing switches on Port Jefferson and Babylon branches.
