Rail News: Passenger Rail
MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) recently began installing four informational signs each of its grade crossings to improve safety.
The signs provide contact information for reporting an emergency or gate malfunction, including a toll-free phone number for the MTA police, the crossing’s road location and identification number, and the branch line the crossing is located on.
LIRR already has installed at 100 crossings; by year end, the railroad plans to hang signs at the remaining 200 crossings.
