LIRR takes delivery of Bombardier M-7 cars
advertisement
New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Long Island Rail Road recently took delivery of the first six-car, M-7 commuter train from Bombardier Transportation.
The train’s cars are designed to be quieter than LIRR’s existing fleet, and features audio and visual announcements in approaching stations using global positioning satellite technology.
The train is the first of 192 cars ordered in May 1999 that included options for up to 1,074 additional cars. To date, 858 cars have been ordered. If LIRR exercises the remaining 408 options, the total contract amount would be $1.85 billion.
