Light-rail design/build contract let in Minnesota

Minnesota Department of Transportation Sept. 27 awarded a $291.3 million design/build contract to a team led by Granite Construction Co. for its Hiawatha Avenue Corridor light-rail project.
The 11.4-mile line would run from downtown Minneapolis through the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport to Mall of America, Bloomington, Minn.
Construction is scheduled to start immediately and end in spring 2003. Minnesota DOT plans to begin Metro Transit revenue service in fall 2004.
