London's 'driverless' railway orders more cars

Exercising an option on an existing contract with Bombardier Transportation, London’s "driverless" Docklands Light Railway recently ordered 12 additional automatic metro cars. The value of the contract option: about $20 million.

Bombardier plans to manufacturer the vehicles in its Bruges plant in Belgium, then deliver them between January 2002 and March 2002.

A computerized public transport system that operates without drivers, Docklands Light Railway links central London with the Docklands area.
