MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) President Helena Williams and other public officials unveiled on Wednesday a recently restored Queens Village station.

The $8.5 million project involved the installation of new elevators, painting of the entire building, new signage and a new fire arm system, LIRR officials said in a press release.

Other improvements throughout the complex included a rehabilitated platform waiting room, a new shelter shed and replacement of platform lighting, bird abatement devices, drainage and erosion control, and security cameras.

The project is part of LIRR's strategy to improve station access in Southwest Queens, said Williams.

Queens Village has been a LIRR stop since 1881, but the station building opened in 1924.
