Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority recently awarded Italy’s Ansaldobreda S.p.A a contract to manufacture 50 light-rail vehicles for the new Metro Gold Line.
The $159 million contract includes options for an additional 100 vehicles.
The cars would be used on the Los Angeles-to-Pasadena Metro Gold Line, which is scheduled to open for revenue service this summer. The authority currently has 26 vehicles assigned to the line. Cars also would be used for the line’s extension to the Eastside, scheduled to open in late 2008.
The vehicles are expected to be delivered by May 2007.
