Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and ALSTOM Transport recently signed an agreement under which ALSTOM will overhaul 238 MARTA passenger cars.
The $266 million contract is the largest ever awarded by MARTA, according to a prepared statement. ALSTOM plans to refurbish CQ310 and CQ311 cars at its Hornell, NY plant. Deliveries are scheduled to begin at the end of 2004, at a rate of up to eight per month.
"MARTA is a mature system and our infrastructure is aging," said MARTA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel Ford Sr. "The rail-car rehabilitation project will give new life of up to 20 years to our rolling stock."
