The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Department of Safety and Quality Assurance (DSQA) last week achieved the International Organization for Standardization 9001:2015 certification of its quality management system (QMS).

The certification was achieved after a nearly two-year, five-phase process that included several rounds of internal and external audits of MARTA’s DSQA and QMS, agency officials said in a press release.

MARTA’s QMS helps coordinate and direct the agency’s activities, meet customer and regulatory requirements and improve effectiveness and efficiency, officials said.

With the recent certification, MARTA became one of few U.S. transit systems to obtain QMS, environmental management system and asset management system certifications.
