MARTA negotiating contract with Cubic to implement smart-card technology
advertisement
Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is negotiating a contract with Cubic Transportation Systems to replace the authority’s fare-collection system with smart-card technology.
Worth $100 million with options, the contract would enable Cubic to link MARTA’s fare-collection system to other area transit modes, such as toll roads and airport parking facilities.
Smart-card technology enables commuters to prepay for tickets. Cubic is installing systems for transit agencies in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.
MARTA plans to complete negotiations by summer’s end.
