MARTA obtains asset management certification

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has been certified for achieving an international standard for asset management.

The International Standard for Asset Management ISO 55000 certification provides an asset management system model to ensure standards are met at every phase of an asset’s life cycle, according to a MARTA press release.

The certification process required the transit authority to take an “exhaustive look at best practices,” said MARTA Asset Management Program Manager Teresa Ray.

With this certification MARTA surpasses state and federal requirements, authority officials said.

“Not only does applying the ISO 55000 standard improve our operation and the quality and level of service we can provide to our customers, it also creates opportunities for reinvestment from the efficiencies we gain," said MARTA Chief of Rail Operations David Springstead.
