MARTA opens training facility for riders with disabilities; board member resigns

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) officials last week celebrated the recent opening of a new Travel Training Facility that helps riders with disabilities learn how to use the agency's rail and fixed-route bus networks.
 
Located at the MARTA Annex on Piedmont Road in northeast Atlanta, the facility includes simulated rail cars, bus stops and Breeze card vending machines to help riders practice critical transit-riding skills, MARTA officials said in a press release.

All MARTA trains and buses are wheelchair accessible and offer priority seating for riders with disabilities. Elevators are available in all rail stations and MARTA’s bus fleet is equipped with wheelchair lifts, agency officials said.

Meanwhile, MARTA announced that Adam Orkin recently resigned from its board. One of three board members representing Fulton County, Orkin resigned due to an increasingly heavy workload and scheduling conflicts with his business and MARTA obligations, MARTA Chairman Frederick Daniels Jr. said in a press release.

Orkin chaired the board's Operations and Safety Committee. The Fulton County Commission will appoint his replacement to MARTA's board, Daniels said.
