MARTA seeks 'air rights' development ideas for rail stations

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has released a request for expressions of interest for air rights to develop space atop four rail stations as part of the agency's transit-oriented development program.

The Arts Center, Lenox, Midtown and North Avenue stations are located within two Atlanta business districts. Due Nov. 1, responses to the request will be used to gauge market potential and assess which stations are most suitable to be released for air rights development through a request for proposals process, MARTA officials said in a press release.

MARTA is soliciting "project vision statements" from local and national developers capable of developing the space atop the stations, they said.

"We want to attract the best developers, locally and nationally, to tackle this sophisticated concept of air rights development at active rail stations,” said MARTA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Keith Parker. “Once complete, these stations will transform their surrounding neighborhoods and make MARTA an even more attractive choice for existing and future customers."
