advertisement
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation Michael Jackson Feb. 8 announced Federal Transportation Administration would present a $26.7 million grant to Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) for its 1.9-mile, two-station North Line Extension.
The funds also would support MARTA’s purchase of 56 rail cars for use on the new route and acquisition of eight new compressed natural gas buses that will replace older vehicles.
This award brings to $329.6 million the total amount of federal funds awarded for the project; President Bush’s proposed fiscal-year 2003 budget would add another $16.1 million to complete the project.
