The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority will build a new city hall next to the rail station in Brookhaven, Georgia, under a new agreement with the city.

The building will be located on MARTA property next to the existing Brookhaven station on the Gold Line in DeKalb County, MARTA officials said in a press release. The 1.24-acre property is now used for long-term parking, which will be relocated to a different area of the station. The ground lease agreement says Brookhaven will lease the nearly $3 million property for 50 years before purchasing it.

The city will oversee planning, financing and construction of the new building. A timeline for work is still being established, MARTA officials said.

"This project will inspire future development around the station, increase ridership and improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity," said MARTA Interim General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. "[It] makes a powerful statement about the centrality of transit."
