MBCR set on-time performance record in February

The Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad (MBCR) posted a record 94.7 percent on-time percentage (OTP) for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) commuter-rail system in February.

The OTP marks the system’s best performance in the month of February since MBCR assumed rail operations and maintenance for MBTA in 2003, MBCR officials said in a prepared statement. Last month’s performance bested the previous record established in February 2004.

The on-time level continues a three-month stretch of high performance, following a 92.7 percent OTP in December 2011 and 93 percent OTP in January 2012, MBCR officials said.

“MBCR is pleased to continue providing customers with a high level of service,” said MBCR General Manager Hugh Kiley Jr.

Some of the agency’s efforts that have helped improve service include the addition of new conductors and locomotive engineers, ongoing efforts to improve the mechanical department, and trackwork projects such as construction of a second track along the Haverhill line, which allows for flexibility of trains to reduce residual delays, MBCR officials said.
