MBTA awards data communications system contract
advertisement
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently awarded a $25.7 million contract to Tyco Electronics subsidiary M/A-COM Inc. to install an 800 MHz voice and data communications system.
The system will improve MBTA’s communication capabilities, providing passengers and personnel a more secure and efficient transportation system, according to a prepared statement.
M/A-COM would link MBTA police, bus and subway operators, and supervisors via one interconnected system, enabling two-way voice and data communications. The system would streamline data transfers on vehicle status, scheduling and passenger emergencies.
M/A-COM will provide a ProVoice 20-channel digital simulcast radio system, mobile and portable radios, and a computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle-location system. The project includes engineering design and implementation support.
