Yesterday, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick joined Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and other officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for the $16 million Talbot Avenue commuter-rail station, which is part of the MBTA’s Fairmount Line rehabilitation project in Boston.

The Talbot Avenue Station is the third of four commuter-rail stations under construction as part of the project, MBTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The new station will feature high-level platforms, canopies, passenger shelters, benches, windscreens and electronic message signs. In addition, closed-circuit television systems, video surveillance cameras, police emergency call box systems and public telephones will be installed.

As part of the project, the Talbot and Woodrow avenue railroad bridges will be replaced. The new station is scheduled to open in 2013.

The 9.2-mile Fairmount Line is the only MBTA line that exclusively serves Boston.
