The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials this week marked the completion of the multimodal Chelsea Commuter Rail Station project.

The new station, which cost $37.7 million to build, will offer riders on the Newburyport and Rockport lines fully accessible high-level platforms and improved station elements. Features include canopies, benches, sidewalks, security cameras and passenger assistance phones.

The old station was demolished. Rail signaling systems and traffic crossings were upgraded.

The new station serves as a multimodal transit connection with the Silver Line 3, improving the rider experience by providing more travel options, said MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak in a press release.
