MBTA launches construction on parking facility

Earlier this week, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) broke ground on the Wonderland parking garage. The $47 million, seven-story parking facility will include 1,465 parking spaces and support plans for the Waterfront Square Development, a transit-oriented development project.

To be funded with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars and MBTA bond revenue financing, the project includes relocating the existing busway to consolidate parking and optimize transit services, according to MBTA. The new garage will help create a multi-modal transit facility integrated with the adjacent Wonderland station.

The Waterfront Square development is a planned mixed-use community that would feature 902 residential units, 145,500 square feet of office space, 28,000 square feet of retail space and a 100-room hotel.
