The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Massachusetts Department on Conservation and Recreation (DCR) are working with the city of Revere and a private developer to consolidate at-grade parking near Wonderland Station. The project is designed to provide safer, more convenient pedestrian access between the station, adjacent neighborhoods and nearby Revere Beach.

Funded through a $20 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant, the project includes building an upper plaza above the station to link the facility’s east and west sides, and creating a connection between the garage, busway and adjacent neighborhoods. MBTA will build new stairs and elevators on the outbound side of the station that, coupled with the stairs and elevators in the new parking garage on the inbound side, will connect the upper plaza with the station.

The project also includes a new central plaza, which is the first phase of a larger plaza that will connect future development and a pedestrian bridge leading to Revere Beach. In addition, MBTA and DCR will build an Ocean Avenue pedestrian bridge, improve a park between Ocean Avenue and Revere Beach Boulevard and construct a Revere Beach Boulevard pedestrian crossing.

The project is scheduled to be complete in June 2012. Wonderland station is located at the end of MBTA’s Blue Line.
