Rail News: Passenger Rail
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently installed a new fare-collection system at Airport Station on the Blue Line.
The equipment includes new entry gates and fare vending machines featuring touch screens. Passengers can use the machines to purchase CharlieTickets, named after the 1950s Kingston Trio’s song "Charlie on the MTA" about a man who continued to ride the Boston-area transit system because he did not have a required five-cent exit fare.
Next week, MBTA will finish installing the equipment at Aquarium Station. By summer’s end, eight Blue Line stations will feature the fare equipment.
