MBTA to start final design for Rockport Station
advertisement
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently awarded a $1.2 million contract to Nitsch Engineering to complete final design for a new Rockport commuter-rail station and layover facility.
Located on the Rockport Line 35 miles north of Boston, the facility will feature a level boarding platform with tactile edging and accessible ramps at both ends, a new station shelter, automated fare collection machines, LED message signs and expanded parking. The project also calls for relocating a freight office and building a layover facility with four storage tracks.
Once final design is complete in winter 2009, MBTA plans to award a construction contract.
