The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is building on the progress of the 2024 track improvement program in 2025 with signal systems upgrades and continued proactive track maintenance work.

“In 2025, the T is committed to proactive maintenance and repairs, including completing critical signal upgrades, which will allow us to deliver the level of service our riders expect and need,” said MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng in a press release.

A $285 million project to modernize the Red and Orange lines’ signal systems is slated for 2025, with goals of reducing congestion and delays, more frequent service, improved scheduling, and reductions in wait times. Other initiatives for the year include routine maintenance, a safety monitoring system on the Green Line, bridge work along key commuter routes, and accessibility enhancements on the Green Line, stations and platforms.

While some construction and maintenance work is scheduled over weekend and weeknights to reduce service disruptions, the MBTA has announced several planned service outages in January through June.

A list of those outages can be found here.
