The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) continues to register subway performance improvements, including fewer weekday delays and declining incidents on MTA New York City Transit’s (NYCT) system.
Weekday delays in February were logged at 37,119, the lowest monthly total since August 2014, according to a MTA press release. Weekday on-time performances increased by nearly 15 percent compared with February 2018 and weekday major incidents totaled 48 last month, only the second time the figure fell below 50 since the metric has been measured, MTA officials said.
Customer journey time performance for February increased 4 percent year over year, and the average additional unanticipated time customers spend onboard a train due to various service issues dropped 27 percent from February 2018’s level.
MTA officials attribute the improvements to the Subway Action Plan, which was launched in 2017 to stabilize the system, and NYCT’s “Save Safe Seconds” campaign.
“Our ability to reduce our major daily incidents is resulting in fewer delays, faster trains and an overall better experience for our customers,” NYCT President Andy Byford said.
