MTA opens coffee shops to attract more Long Island Rail Road riders

New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has introduced joint coffee shops and convenience stores at three Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) stations – an amenity intended to attract more commuters to public transit.
Located within the Manhasset, Port Washington and Lynbrook stations, the stores will be operated by JPA Consolidated, Inc., and carry a selection of beverages and grab-and-go treats and snacks.
“Long Islanders lead busy lives and having a spot to grab their morning coffee or a small snack to start their journey to work or school is an added benefit to riding the Long Island Rail Road every day,” said LIRR President Rob Free in a press release.
JPA calls the shops “Retail in Motion” with goals of creating economic resilience and hiring local staff to support each of the stations with stores.
