The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) yesterday launched a test version of its "MYmta" app, which provides real-time arrival information and trip planning for subways, buses and commuter-rail service.

The agency also unveiled a new mobile-optimized site, new.mta.info. The app and the website are designed to "bring wayfinding for all of MTA's mass transit properties under one roof," agency officials said in a press release.

The new app builds on MTA's improved data infrastructure, which includes new trip-planning engines and enhanced monitoring. The digital infrastructure updates also improve the quality of information provided to third-party developers, who can use the data to create their own apps.

The MTA is seeking rider feedback on the app and website to improve it. The MTA's existing apps will remain online until public feedback indicates that riders' needs are better served through the new app and website, agency officials said.
