New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced the completion of a $95 million renewal of MTA Metro-North Railroad's station in downtown White Plains.
Changes include refurbishment of several entrances and remodeling to update and modernize the station’s look, such as glass entrances and improved lighting. Side and island platforms were also extended to increase capacity, and a new ADA-compliant elevator was added.
The station also has new amenities, such as WiFi connections and USB charging ports on benches. Digital signage will help communicate train information more conveniently and effectively, officials said. The White Plains station is the third largest station on the Metro-North line and serves over 12,000 people on an average weekday (pre-pandemic). Renovations began in 2018.
"Upgrading our transportation hubs to meet the demands of the 21st century is fueling the economic comeback that we need today and will help keep New York's economy competitive in the future," Hochul said in a press release.
