MTA to repair Baltimore light-rail, subway systems

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has plans to complete $4.7 million in repair projects to Baltimore’s light-rail and subway systems this summer.

Light-rail repairs will include replacing four grade crossings on the Hunt Valley area line, which will affect the Warren Road, Gilroy Road, McCormick Road, Pepper Road and Hunt Valley light-rail stations, MTA officials said in a prepared statement.

MTA crews also will replace worn rails and install improved rail foundations to a section of the light-rail system that opened in 1997. The work will be the first major repair since the system opened, according to the agency.

On the Metro Subway, MTA will replace interlockings on the track between the Reisterstown Plaza and Rogers Avenue stations.

The project includes replacing the switch machines and mechanics, rail, wood ties with concrete ties and corresponding foundation.
