The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) next month will increase fares by 10 cents on its light-rail and subway systems.

Mandated by the state's Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013, the fare hike goes into effect June 25, according to an agency press release.

Single-trip fares on light-rail, subway, bus and paratransit systems will grow to $1.80. Fares for the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) train service won't increase at this time, agency officials said.

The law requires MTA to raise transit fares by increments of 10 cents if the consumer price index increases over the previous two years.
