Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP), in partnership with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), has selected Maryland Transit Solutions (MTS) to complete the Purple Line light-rail project.

PLTP is the public-private parntership (P3) agreement to design, build, finance and operate the Purple Line. Dragados USA Inc. and OHL USA Inc. joined to form MTS. The next steps in the procurement process include finalizing contracts as PLTP seeks to secure required financing. MDOT MTA intends to return to the Maryland Board of Public Works with the selected contractor, replacement design-build contract and amended P3 Agreement, which will include an updated project cost and schedule for completion.

Commercial and financial closing processes are expected to occur in February 2022, MDOT officials said in a press release. Based on that timeline, full-scale construction of the Purple Line will resume in the spring, they said.

The Purple Line will be a 16-mile light-rail line with 21 stations between New Carrollton and Bethesda, Maryland. The route will connect with other lines managed by Amtrak, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Metrorail and the Maryland Area Regional Commuter.
