Maryland rail, bus passengers to see smart cards by end of 2004
advertisement
Maryland Transit Administration Dec. 20 awarded Cubic Transportation Systems a $38.3 million contract to deliver a statewide smart ticketing system. If all options were to be exercised, the total contract amount could reach $41 million.
MTA’s subway, light rail, commuter rail and bus systems will be equipped with magnetic and smart card products. And, as part of the contract, Cubic also will provide additional services such as SmartBenefits, which enables participating employers to load transit benefits directly onto employees’ cards.
Cubic plans to install MTA’s equipment in stages between second- and fourth-quarter 2003, with acceptance by third-quarter 2004.
