The Maryland Transit Administration's MARC commuter-rail service registered record August on-time performance (OTP), with 95 percent of trains reaching their destination at the appointed time. Year to date, OTP stood at 94 percent.
In August 2011, MARC trains posted OTP of 89 percent.
On the Penn Line, OTP reached 95 percent in August compared with 91 percent during the same 2011 period. Year to date, Penn Line OTP stood at 91 percent.
Brunswick Line OTP was 95 percent compared with 91 percent in August 2011. Year to date, the line's OTP was 94 percent.
Finally, the Camden Lin hit OTP of 95 percent in August versus 91 percent in August 2011. Year to date, OTP was 96 percent.
MARC officials attribute the improved operations to investments being made by the state. The agency has purchased diesel locomotives and overhauled 34 passenger cars. In 2013, the first of 54 new bi-level cars will be delivered, enabling MARC to increase capacity.
