Metra, state and local officials yesterday broke ground on the new Peterson Ridge Station in Edgewater, Illinois.
Construction of the station, located along the Union Pacific North Line, will cost $19 million and take about 18 months to complete, Metra officials said in a press release. Renovation work on nearby bridges over Peterson and Ridge avenues will cost another $3 million.
The station's features will include two six-car platforms, heated concrete stairs, ADA-compliant ramps, glass and masonry warming house with side canopies and metal roof, two shelters with on-demand heating, a plaza with associated landscaping and irrigation system and reworked traffic signals for the station entrance.
The project will be funded by a $15 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and $7 million from the Federal Transit Administration.
