Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) recently began construction on a new National Street commuter rail station in Elgin, Ill.

The $7 million project includes constructing a 1,500 square-foot warming house and two shelters, landscaping, lighting, and a new bike path and park along the Fox River.

The project is being funded by Metra, the city of Elgin, the Federal Transit Administration and Illinois Department of Transportation. Century Contractors is the general contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed in 2005.
