Metra kicks off platform project at Mayfair Station

Metra this week began work on a $500,000 platform extension project at its Mayfair Station in Chicago along the Milwaukee District Line.

The station's platforms are being extended to accommodate seven cars instead of three, Metra officials said in a press release. The length of the current platforms slows down the boarding and exiting processes, and also makes it difficult to ensure trains stopping at Mayfair don't block a nearby intersection with the UP Northwest Line, Metra officials said.

In addition to the platform work, the agency will replace lighting and add two shelters at the Mayfair Station.

The commuter railroad expects to complete the project in three months.
