Metra wraps up Oak Park Station repair project

Metra completed a $373,000 repair project at its rail station in Oak Park, Ill., along the Union Pacific West Line.

Work included demolition and reconstruction of some of the station's masonry walls and piers, the installation of a new damage-resistant stone base at the wall/platform interface, and a partial resurfacing of the platform, Metra officials said in a statement.

The commuter railroad's crews also applied a protective treatment on the masonry surfaces and repaired damaged lights and associated conduits.

"We are investing in the state of good repair for our system and we are making sure this station serves as a welcoming gateway to Metra and to the community of Oak Park for many years to come," said Metra Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Don Orseno.

Metra tapped Path Construction of Arlington Heights, Ill., to perform the work. The firm's $583,800 contract included $373,000 for the Oak Park station, as well as $210,800 for similar work at the Glencoe Station on the railroad's UP North line. The latter project is in progress, Metra officials said.
