MTA Metro-North Railroad (MNR) in 2024 posted its strongest on-time performance, hitting a record high of above 98%.
The record service performance occurred even as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority completed several steel structure replacement projects on the MNR, MTA officials said in a press release.
Also in 2024, the MTA completed weather-resistance projects and infrastructure upgrades to the MNR's New Haven Line. MNR also decreased its customer injury rate 31.5%, from 2 injuries per million customers to 1.37, and employee lost time injury rate 17%, from 1.94 lost time injuries per 200,000 work hours to 1.61.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has proposed major investments to the MNR's Hudson Valley Line that would increase capacity, reduce delays, improve safety and cut travel times, MTA officials said. She outlined $8 billion in state operating aid to the entire MTA for the fiscal-year 2026, they added.
“Metro-North’s 2024 performance sets the standard for the new MTA — faster, safer and more reliable service than ever before,” said MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber.
