MTA Metro-North Railroad on April 21 will close the Breakneck Ridge Station on the Hudson Line in Fishkill, New York, for two years during the first phase of construction for the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail (HHFT).

The linear park HHFT will stretch 7.5 miles to connect the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve trailheads between Cold Spring and Beacon, Metro-North officials said in a press release. The new trail will provide hikers with a safer alternative to walking along State Route 9D to reach trailheads.

Once the project is completed, Metro-North riders will have direct access to one of the state's popular hiking destinations and a safer passage to Hudson Highlands State Park, said Metro-North Railroad President Justin Vonashek.

During the closure, HHFT crews will replace existing low-level platforms at the Breakneck Ridge Station with longer, higher platforms with ramps and construct a pedestrian and bike path between the outbound platform of the Metro-North station and the Breakneck Ridge trailhead.
