Metro-North expands 'quiet car' program on New Haven line

In response to a pilot project that proved popular, MTA Metro-North Railroad officials announced plans to expand a “quiet car” program to all morning and evening peak-hour New Haven Line trains effective April 2.
The last car on all morning peak hour trains and the first car on all afternoon peak hour trains will be quiet cars, which require riders to silence sound on laptop computers and refrain from using cell phones and speaking in loud voices, Metro-North officials said in a prepared statement.
A recent survey of New Haven riders found that 92 percent of respondents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the quiet car program, which also includes trains on the Harlem and Hudson lines. Eighty-three percent said they favored expanding the program.
