With the start of the baseball season this week, MTA Metro-North Railroad continues to construct the Yankee Stadium station, which is scheduled to open in time for the Yankee’s home opener in a new stadium next year.

Most of the station’s utility and foundation work has been completed, as well as platform footings and slabs. Since the project broke ground in July, contractors also have constructed two new tracks with a wide island platform in between, and the steel framework for an elevator tower and staircase.

The $91 million project also calls for relocating four of Metro-North’s Hudson Line tracks so the agency can construct two center-island platforms, which will enable four 10-car trains to serve the station at one time. The facility also will feature four staircases and two elevators connecting the platforms at a 10,000-square-foot covered mezzanine.

In addition, the station will include an overpass to provide access to the stadium’s west parking lot, as well as the waterfront and new city parks.

Metro-North officials currently are developing plans for train service, crew requirements, station maintenance and cleaning, security, advertising and staffing. On game days, the agency expects up to 10,000 people to use the station, which will become a regular Hudson Line stop.
