Metro-North restores some service to New Haven Line
MTA Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line was operating at about 65 percent of normal service as of yesterday, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials announced.
The line has been down since last week due to a Con Edison power outage. Earlier this week, the MTA's board approved a credit to riders with monthly or weekly tickets for the line.
"Because of the unprecedented magnitude and duration of this disruption, the [board] has concluded that a credit for our customers is simply the right thing to do," said MTA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Prendergast in a press release.
Five additional peak trains were operating yesterday morning. The service was made possible by Con Edison's installation of a third temporary transformer to serve an eight-mile section, where the main electrical feeder cable failed.
