Metro-North to test quiet car concept in October
advertisement
On Oct. 17, MTA Metro-North Railroad officials plan to launch a “quiet car” pilot program during select peak hours on Harlem and Hudson line trains.
The last car on certain morning peak hour trains and the first car on certain afternoon peak hour trains will be reserved for riders who prefer a quiet environment free of cell phones, loud conversations and other sounds from portable electronics, Metro-North officials said in a prepared statement.
The program will be voluntary with riders “self-monitoring” the cars, but conductors will issue cards to remind riders who are non-compliant.
The use of electronic devices — including cell phones, iPods, DVD players and laptop computers — will be prohibited on quiet cars. Metro-North will evaluate rider reaction to the pilot program before deciding whether to expand it, agency officials said.
